Home Cooking

Simply switching from processed food or fast food can make a big change in your diet, and it should be a big part of your weight loss plan. There is often a lot of salt, additives, sugar and fat hidden in processed foods. This is often what makes them so delicious and leaves your body craving more! If you don’t want to undertake a diet plan, simple home cooking more often can make a big difference. Head to the grocery store and pick up some of your favorite fruits, veggies and meats to create healthy home cooked meals.

Make a Meal Plan

Creating a meal plan and sticking to it can be a very important part of your weight loss plan, and it can help you reach your fitness goals a lot faster. It’s much easier to eat healthy, when you know in advance what you’re eating. That way, you can prepare and buy needed ingredients, and you won’t end up ordering a pizza because you don’t have time to come up with a meal or go get the ingredients you need for it. It will save you a lot of time, and it will make healthy eating much easier and more sustainable for you.

Snack Better

Sometimes when we have meals nailed, it’s our snacks that are letting down our healthy eating and weight loss plans. But it doesn’t have to be that way! Base your snacks on veggies (think veggies sticks and hummus) or fruit with added peanut butter. Check out this post for more great ideas when it comes to healthy snacks that will sustain you and leave you feeling light and energized. Ideally you want to be eating well balanced meals that leave you feeling satiated all day. But sometimes it can be hard to fit in healthy meal prep during such a busy time. So having healthy snacks on hand can make a big difference. And you do want to have them on hand. Nothing worse than trying to think of what to eat when you’re already hungry. I know I never make a good decision then! Also, include snacks into your meal plans - that way, you still eat them, but you plan them out, and you end up eating healthy snacks instead of chips you find in your pantry.

Work It Out

I don’t know about you, but I know when I’m sticking to my workout plan and fitness routine, I always seem to eat healthier. It’s like I don’t want to let all that hard work go to waste by eating a whole lot of food that’s going to make me feel sluggish. Hiring a personal trainer is a great way to stay on track or just add strength training a few times a week to your workout plan and you’ll reach your goals in no time. They can come up with a fitness routine for you, so it’s easier to stay on track. Whether you want to work out for 45 minutes, or do 20-minute high intensity interval trainings, your personal trainer can come up with a plan that works for you. Don’t have a workout plan? That’s okay! Try to increase your steps each day or add in some simple body weight exercises to your day. Squats are super simple to do anywhere and you don’t have to work up a sweat. You can come up with a fitness routine yourself, if you don’t want to hire a trainer - do pilates, squats, interval training, high intensity training or low intensity training, strength workouts, basically whatever works for YOU and makes you feel good!

Drop the Sweets

It’s proven that sugar is addictive. In the week before your wedding it can be tempting to look for those quick hits of energy through lollies, chocolate or other sweet treats. They might taste good and the surge in sugar might make you feel energized in the short term. But what your body is really craving is good healthy food that will leave you feeling full for longer. If you can set yourself a rule of no sugary treats for the final week, you’re bound to feel amazing when you step into your wedding dress. There are a few sneaky things you can do, like dark chocolate to satisfy the chocolate craving. Or try bananas or some frozen fruit to cool off and still get that sweetness.

Water, Water, Everywhere

That old saying about thirst being mistaken for hunger is true. When you feel like reaching into the pantry, try drinking a large glass of water first. Sure, if you’re still hungry, make sure you’re eating enough food. Wedding weight loss shouldn’t feel like deprivation. But check in with yourself and see if it was just hunger. Often times I do this and completely forget that I ever felt hungry. Not a fan of water? Try adding some slices of cucumber or a fruit tea bag to the water to spice things up. I also like carrying around a large bottle with me so I know exactly how much I’ve had in a day. When I start to feel hungry I usually look at that and find it surprisingly full and realise that it’s thirst not hunger that’s getting me! Besides, even when you’re not trying to lose weight, you should drink lots of water. It’s so important for your body and health! Fill up a water bottle, and carry it with you wherever you go.
