wedding nutrition tips

It's time to plan your cocktail hour! Cocktail hour is a wonderful time for guests to mingle and relax before the reception, and it gives you and your significant other some time to connect and have pictures taken. If you're stuck on which drinks to serve during this special time, we've got some inspiration for you! These cocktails are wonderful for your spring & summer affairs, or even for a get together with your bridal party. Below you'll find wonderfully tasty cocktails (& mocktails!) sure to delight.

COCKTAILS

Mango Peach Frose

This cocktail is perfect for those who love the sweet & simple things. This drink is made with frozen fruit and rose wine, meaning that it's naturally sweetened by the fruit (and the sugar in the wine!).

Lavender Lemon Mojito

We love the idea ox mixing lavender and lemon to not only create a lovely, aromatic mojito, but a light & health conscious one at that! This recipe relies on pulling from lavender leaves and lemon juice, which provides a tangy, flavorful drink without a bunch of added sugars.

Sparkling Elderflower Lemonade

Elderflower is receiving some well-deserved love in the news with the arrival of that beautiful elderflower lemon cake shared by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at their wedding. The combination of the naturally sweet elderflower with the tangy bite of citrus make for a very refreshing cocktail. *Want to make it non-alcoholic? Simply swap out the elderflower liqueur for elderflower presse!

MOCKTAILS

Tropical Sunshine / Fuzzy Sunrise

This pair of mocktails is inspired by spring and made with protein water as one of the primary ingredients, so this drink is perfect for those who like to make sure they're getting an adequate amount of protein on the daily.

Fermented Gin(ger) Fizz

For those who prefer a tart and somewhat spicy kick to their drink, you'll delight in this summer-friendly cocktail alternative. Reap the detoxifying benefits of kombucha and lemon with this twist on a classic fizz.

Honey Blackberry Mint Mocktail

With 0 added refined sugar and a natural sweetening component, this mocktail is a wonderful vegan/vegetarian option for all to enjoy. It's light, not too sweet, and provides a complex flavor combination that delivers a crisp and delightful sip.

    7 Light Bridal Shower Appetizers

The bridal shower is such a special time! Decorating your home & receiving new necessities can make you feel loved and excited to start this new life.

Share some of the love back by offering delicious but healthy appetizers. Even if is doesn't seem like it, it's really true - everyone appreciates healthy food offered at social events.

These recipes are all nutritionist approved and will help you stay healthy while celebrating with friends and family.

    easy wedding appetizers

    Individual Veggie & Dip Cups

We suggest long and thin veggies like bell pepper slices, celery, baby carrots, and zucchini or cucumber sticks. For the dip, try salsa or a low-calorie dressing (our recommendation is less than 50 calories per 2 Tablespoons). And talk about personal hygiene! We love individual cups or other personal, hand-held snacks.

    Salsa & Vegetable Platter

Along the same lines of veggie & dip cups, try a platter of non-starchy vegetables paired with a variety of salsas (salsa is just more cut-up vegetables!). When you're sitting around and talking for hours, it's nice to have something you can constantly munch on, but you don't have to worry about raking in excess calories.

    Caprese Skewers

Try adding mozzarella balls and grape tomatoes to toothpicks, and drizzle with balsamic vinegar. Easy, fancy, and so quick!

    Antipasto Platter

Cheese and meats are filling, delicious, and don't include excess sugar. Create a platter with uncured versions (healthier for your colon) of these typically cured meats

Cheeses - choose 2: fresh mozzarella, manchego, provolone, Parmigiano-Reggiano, gouda

Meats - choose 2: prosciutto, salami, pepperoni, mortadella

Vegetables - choose 2: artichokes, roasted red bell or cherry peppers, mixed olives

Here's a great article with more detail!

    Spinach & Artichoke Dip

Another low-sugar and low-carb option is spinach & artichoke dip. You can buy this or make it yourself! Here's a recipe we love. Pair it with cut-up vegetables like celery, cucumbers, and carrots instead of chips!

    Zucchini Pizza Bites

Instead of mini bagels - try zucchini rounds for mini pizza bites. Top with roasted tomatoes (instead of pizza sauce, to eliminate the extra sugar often found in pre-made sauces) and Parmesan cheese. Here's an easy recipe to try or modify!

    Bacon wrapped dates

This one is a little higher in sugar than our other options, but is a true crowd-pleaser. Here's an easy recipe we love - complete with a how-to video!

Remember to enjoy your day and cheers with a glass of champagne!
