Cute Couple Poses with Food

If food is an important part of your life, you might want it to be part of your photos too! I promise, it’s not as odd as it may sound. There are many cute ways to incorporate food into your engagement or wedding photos.

Posing with food may not always be appropriate. You have to choose the right photo opp so that it’s cute and not cheesy. Food photos can be so cute when the food just fits. If you met at Starbucks or you both have a mutual love of fancy coffee, an engagement photo including your favorite drinks could be perfect! But, if your friends and family know you hate coffee, having coffee cups in your photo wouldn’t make sense.

Getting a great picture of you and your love with your most loved food is not just about the food. Even the most beautifully set plate of food might not yield beautiful photos. Posing is just as important, if not more important than the food itself. If you are working with an experienced photographer they will help you with this, but your photographer will also want to know what kind of poses YOU want.

Here are some super cute ideas for photos with food- and tips on how to pull off something similar- for your wedding or engagement session!

Eating the food - both of you

This can be a great option for wedding reception photos - particularly if you are doing something funky like hamburgers for your reception dinner. This is a great time to be a little silly (yay! You just got married!) and get a more candid style.

Just be careful it is a fun “stuffing your face” photo, not an awkward mouth open full of food kind of picture. The couple in this photo looks so cute and like they are having a lot of fun!

Feeding each other cake

Now I know this is basically an every wedding photo, but you have to decide what kind of picture you want of this momentous occasion. Chances are, you spent a pretty penny on that cake. At the very least you put a lot of thought into how it would look and what flavor it would be.

Get more bang for your buck out of that cake with a stylized photo. If the cake smash photo is more your couple style, definitely go for it. If you are looking for more of a romantic feel, take the delicate cake tasting approach. Just look how cute this couple is, and how that beautiful cake accentuates the whole photo!

Food as the focus

Whether it is your ridiculously gorgeous cake or two simple to-go coffee cups like in the photo below, when you want the food to tell the story, take this approach.

The message in this photo is “yay! We’re engaged, and we want to tell the world!” The “Bride to Be” and “Groom to Be” message on the cups can be a really fun way to announce your engagement. You might not even want to wait on your professional engagement photos for this one. Your best friend and her cell phone camera might be perfect for the one shot you take to get the word out in a super cute way!

The main thing that makes this pose work is that the couple is visible but out of focus in the background, and the food (and the message) are in sharp focus in the foreground.

Forehead kiss - physical touch

Ok, this might sound cheesy to some, but there is nothing more romantic than a kiss on the forehead. Even when you include food in the photo, these are still engagement or wedding pictures, so keep the romance.

Have your favorite food on the table, look like you’re eating it even, but add in some physical touch. Have your new (or almost) husband kiss you on the forehead or cheek, put your noses or foreheads together. If you want to be a little cheeky, put your hand on his so it looks like you’re trying to steal a sip of his milkshake.

Any kind of loving touch makes it more obvious the picture is for your wedding or engagement.

Have a little fun with it!

Add some whimsy to your pictures! It is always fun to feed each other. Whether it’s cake, a bite off your reception dinner plate, or ice cream cones, this can be so cute. I love how the couple in this photo got a little carried away and ended up laughing as one had their cone smashed in their face!

Make it about your lives together!

Food is not the only thing you enjoy together, so include the other things too. A favorite pastime, your pet, your favorite place to sit together and drink coffee. You can be sitting in front of your favorite caffe, holding your favorite coffees AND holding hands or linking arms. Oh, and don’t forget your dog sitting next to you! Don’t believe me? Just look at the gorgeous couple in this picture!

Tips for Posing with Food

1. When possible, choose food that’s not messy

Messy food is hard to photograph, especially if you have to move it around. If it’s your absolute favorite and it is super messy, find a way to make the mess fun, like smearing a little BBQ sauce on your partner's nose.

2. Place the food where it makes sense in the photo

For example, the photo above at In-N-Out it makes sense that the food is on the table in front of them. In the last photo it makes sense they are holding the coffee cups. It might not make sense to have a full dinner out on a picnic table with the two of you sitting off to the side gazing into each other’s eyes.

3. Hold it out in front of you

When the food is the focus of the photo, holding it straight out in front (but not blocking your faces) gives depth and dimension to the picture. It also makes it easier to zero the focus in on the food. You have probably seen this done mostly with engagement rings held out for the focus, but it works just as well with food!

4. Sit close or look at each other

Remember that these are engagement or wedding photos. Including food can make them cute and help them tell your story, but it’s important that those who see the photos know that it IS your story. Look at each other when feeding each other cake or stuffing your faces with juicy burgers. Sit close, let your arms touch or hold hands when that makes more sense for the photos.

5. Work with a professional

A good photographer can take your visions and turn them into more beautiful photos than you could have ever imagined! If you want all of your cute ideas perfectly posed, consider hiring a professional. It can get costly, but the value is there!
